"Hmm, that I don't know." Claire admits, glancing up again. She could tell him that she would be fine but she can see his concern. That and he knows what its like to be on the sea which is an experience she doesn't have. If he doesn't think she is ready yet, then she will believe him.
"Have they ever had a woman sleep in the same room as them?" She looks suddenly wary, unable to help it. She doesn't mean any offense by it but she has to know. "What about down in the kitchen area? Could I put a cot there?"
With his previous crew, the one he'd chosen and groomed himself, he could have assured her that even if they'd never had a woman sleeping in the same room, they wouldn't have dared to try anything without risking his wrath. This crew came with the ship; while he can tell that they're fine sailors, he can't say much else about them.
"Aye, you could put a hammock in the galley. You'd be warmer there anyway, with the stove there. I'll show you."
He leads her across the deck to a hatch. As they pass one, he indicates it, and mentions in a casual tone, "My cabin is there. The hold and the rest of it are reached down this way." He opens another hatch and leads her down an open ladder to a room containing a few long tables and a cookstove. "A hammock would fit in the corner there."
If it had been his own crew, she wouldn't have asked but she knows that he isn't as familiar with these men and so she is relieved when he doesn't push the idea. That he seems to understand what she is getting at.
"And good for the days when I cook so much that all I can do is just collapse in bed." She agrees with a chuckle.
She notes the casual way he mentions his cabin while motioning to a door and already she is tracking how far it is from where she will be. The thought makes her smirk and she quickly presses her lips together to keep from doing so in a noticeable fashion. What? She couldn't help flirting with the idea of things every once in awhile. She is still thinking about it a little when he leads her down into the eating area. She nods, glancing around. "I can work with this."
"We can put a partition up as well, for a little more privacy." And a place for her to put her personal belongings, since each of the men have a bunk and storage space of their own.
"Since we're down here, would you like a tour of the rest of it?"
"That would be nice too." It is going to be a little weird having such a small space with no real walls or doors but she would happily give that all up in trade of getting out of The City.
It's not a problem for him, as used to living in small quarters as he is. His apartment in the City had been larger than anywhere he'd lived in years, after all. But for now he'll make sure that she feels comfortable here.
"It shouldn't take long." He leads her back out into a hallway with some doors leading off of it. "Another door into my cabin. First mate and bosun's quarters through those doors." Back in the galley, he indicates another door off the other end. "That door leads to crew quarters, and through that other one is access to the holds." She'll need to see those too, since that's where the food is.
"So there are two doors to your cabin?" She asks, glancing back at the door once more even while she walks after him. Without thinking, she moves a little quicker despite the fact that he hasn't started walking any faster. It causes her to bump into his back before she catches herself and looks up with wide eyes. Her hand brushes against his back as she nudges herself back. "Sorry."
She looks past him, nodding while acting casual. "That's where the food is, right?"
"There are. It makes for easier access. In case of an emergency or something requiring my attention," he hastens to add. Not because he had anything else on his mind, or any other reason for pointing out his cabin to her.
"Aye." His hand just might brush against her when he reaches out to open the door to show her. "It's dark though, so you'll need a torch."
Yes, just like there is no reason for her to take note of where the doors are or to commit it to memory.
"I'm allowed to just stop by and visit, aren't I?" She has to ask, glancing over at him with a small grin. "I mean, hanging out is sort of our thing, isn't it? That doesn't have to change once I start working as your cook, right?"
There is a slight pause when his hand brushes against her and leaves a little trail of electricity in its place. "Hmm. Do you have a torch?"
"I would be offended if you didn't." He quite enjoys spending time with her, after all, which is why he allowed her to come along on this trip, wherever it may take them.
"Not on me. A lantern would work just as well, and I'll make sure you have one, but in the meantime, I have one in my cabin that we can use."
"I would be offended if you made me just stay in the kitchen all the time." She counters with a quick grin and a little nudge to his side. It's a perfect excuse to touch him here and there, okay?
She eyes the dark inside of the hold before glancing over at him again. "That might be a good idea. I want to see inside, after all. Your cabin, I mean."
"I would hate to offend." Her, anyway. There are some people whom he doesn't care how much he offends them. As far as he's concerned, they've earned it.
"Come along then." He leads her back in the direction of his cabin, and leads her inside. It's meticulously neat, but she gets the idea that it's not because he just moved in; there are a few personal items scattered here and there, and each of them has a specific space as well.
"The lantern's on the hook by the door." But he's not reaching for it just yet.
"Well, hate to offend just me, right?" She glances at him with a coy smirk before looking ahead again as they turn back towards his cabin. She knows he might not care about offending others. She is learning not to really care either in this part of her life.
Stepping into his cabin once he opens the door, she stops and takes a moment to look around. She takes note of the personal items, the layout of the room and even his bed. Never once does she look for the lantern until he points out that it's on the hook by the door. She gives it a brief glance and nods again before looking around.
"It's nice. Definitely a lot more room." Yes, she glances at the bed again.
"It's an honor I reserve only for the most deserving of individuals." Right now, she's at the top of that list.
"I am the captain." Being the captain comes with its perks. Such as being able to entertain visitors in his cabin. "And being the captain, I say what goes and what doesn't."
He takes a step closer to her. "I assign the jobs. When something needs to be done in the rigging in the hold, I decide who goes up and who goes down."
Into the rigging, or the hold. That's what he means here.
His answer gets him a genuinely warm smile that she flashes at him before answering. "You're at the top of mine too, Killian."
"And you have already decided my job." She says, her eyes flickering down his form as he steps closer. She stays where she is, not caring as he closes the distance between them while they continue their little dance that they have been doing since before they left the City. The subtle flirting and teasing as they spent more and more time together.
Now it's just them, talking about jobs and the ship. Apparently.
The corners of her mouth twitch as she is the one to take a step closer to him this time. She knows why he gave her the job that he did and she intends to continue working on learning more about the ship but not right now. Not in this moment.
Instead, she teases him with a smirk. "Are you suggesting that I work to become Captain?"
She knows what he had meant when he mentioned private quarters but she can't resist.
Holding his gaze, she takes the last step to close the rest of the distance between them and comes to a stop close enough that she can nearly feel the heat of his body through his clothes. She isn't quite touching him, not yet, but she has to tip her head back ever so slightly just to look him in the face. There is no denying the charge in the air around them too, one that seems to wake up her body until every inch of her is so very aware of him.
"Yeah?" Her voice is softer too as she smirks again, one hand coming up to rest lightly against his chest. "Show me."
He thinks it's safe to assume that she doesn't mean she wants to compare the size of his cabin to the first mate's. That would require breaking someone else's privacy, anyway.
"With pleasure." He's had enough of anticipation; he wants action. It takes no effort at all to close what little distance remains between them and pull her to him for a kiss that proves just how much he's been waiting for this.
There is a day when he will have to show her the first mate's cabin because she is determined to claim that role one day but right now she is focused on him.
A flash of pleasure crosses her features before she presses up onto her tiptoes to meet the kiss when he pulls her close. A little moan vibrates against his lips because she had been waiting for this and it certainly doesn't leave her disappointed as she curls her arms around him. Teasing her tongue against his lip, she encourages the kiss to deepen.
That will be at least a year from now, because she will not only have to learn the job well enough to act with some authority when she needs to, but also earn the trust of the crew, who will have to take orders from her.
He presses her against the wall behind her as the urgency of the kiss increases. One hand slips under her shirt and her bra to brush his thumb over her nipple.
It's a good thing that she has a lot of time to spare, then. It's not like she has plans to go anywhere else and so he might get the pleasure of seeing her work to become his first mate.
Right now, she is focused on other pleasures as she nips at his bottom lip when he presses her to the wall. Sliding her hands down and around his back, she tugs at his shirt until she could slide her fingers underneath to tease at the skin there as well. Then she makes a soft noise as she arches into his hand, her nipple hardening under his ministrations.
